do I ever get mad? March 31, 2009

Yesterday at the bank, the teller said to me “Do you ever get mad? Because you always have a smile on your face!”
I said “shut up bitch, or I’ll cut you.”*
*okay, I didn’t really say that – but wouldn’t that have been something if I did??
as I left the train and headed to work, some thoughts… March 31, 2009

- The decision of where to get coffee this morning was decided solely by the cute ass I followed up the stairs and out of the subway. (and I love that I can say things like this and laugh about them with my husband later)
- The coffee tastes like the coffee from Waffle House. It makes me think of my Grandma (she calls Waffle House’s coffee “trucker coffee”). I like it.
- I take an evil joy out of watching the person who failed last week attempt to overcompensate THIS week – and then fail again.
double 3’s – less than a month March 30, 2009

Do most people lie about their age? Or own up to it? My big day is coming up in April. Double 3’s. I guess I’m not upset about the tick on the calendar. Although I can’t say I’m thrilled either. Age is a state of mind, right? Yeah, only old people say that.

The fog was amazing today as we were walking back from the gym. It was so thick you couldn’t even see the Henry Hudson Bridge.

Keith met me at work at the end of my day. We headed over to Soho Billiards where he proceeded to bash me about the head and shoulders with his exceptional pool skills (or is it luck?).

After pool, we grabbed a bite to eat at Nolita House. And then dashed up to midtown for a quick cocktail at Sardi’s before heading over to the Al Hirschfeld Theatre for Hair.

Everything lead up to Hair. The show was absolutely outstanding. AMAZING voices – the talent on the stage was immeasurable. The show is completely relevant – AGAIN! This is one of those shows that you will regret missing – so don’t miss it. The cast is beautiful, strong, vibrant, and moving. I might go see it again, and this time I’ll be on the ground floor so I can get up there and dance at the end!

An observation from the train…
A mother and her two children are not far from me on the train. She has a bottle of beer in her hand, which she takes a large pull from every few minutes. Someone she knows is sitting accross the aisle, and a few seats down. The mother is carrying on a (mostly) one-sided conversation with this woman across the aisle by shouting over the noise, over the people. Her children are quiet the entire trip. Two daughters, both very young. I look over at the mother at one point as she is shouting at the woman and swinging her beer bottle. The older girl looks at me, looks at the bottle gripped in her mother’s hand, and looks away. At every station, as new people get in, people notice the mother. The older girl looks at the bottle, and then into the faces of these people that notice. Embarassed. 59th Street stop – the mother gets up and leaves with the younger daughter. The older daughter stays seated. The mother stands outside the train window, still having a conversation – apparantly – with the woman who can no longer hear her. She sways as she laughs. She pounds on the window by her oldest daughter’s head. The girl smiles, and looks around to see how many people are watching. The doors shut, the girl watches her mother as the train pulls away. She curls up against the wall. Head down. Hiding.

“Let The Right One In” – a swedish movie that has been getting a lot of buzz. Frankly, in my opinion, it’s about time someone made a movie about children vampires. Great movie – scary and beautifully shot.

Oh man, I got up this morning and the bags under my eyes were frightening. I know I didn’t sleep well last night, but come on! I’m only 32!!! I have a night eye cream, and I have a morning eye cream and they don’t seem to be helping. So I’m trying this:
Any other ideas? Cold compresses? Cucumbers? Face lift?
